Bats On The Dance Floor - The Bad Luck 13 Riot Extravaganza

The Bad Luck 13 Riot Extravaganza is more about what they do while they play than their actual music but I figured that with them just being announced as this year's headliner for This Is Hardcore I should post some of their music.  The only thing that I can think of about them playing this year is that it's going to be an absolute shit show.  They haven't played since their "final" show back in 2004 at Hellfest when they caused a riot that ended up with the show being shut down.  If you like dirty, pissed off, and sludgey hardcore and insane stage antics that are known to end with fires and people being sent to the hospital then these guys might just be for you.

Shows I Have Coming Up

I'm just posting the flyers and information for the two shows that I'm promoting coming up.  If you live in the Oklahoma area they're definitely worth checking out.

The local bands for this one are still tentative but Eternal Sleep and Despicable Feelings should definitely put on a good show.  Eternal Sleep is out of Pittsburgh and they're good friends with all of the guys in Code Orange Kids.  They've been heavily backed by everyone around their local scenes and I really expect them to become a recognizable name in the heavy hardcore genre.  Despicable Feelings is a new Emo band from Ohio and they've got some catchy hooks.

Self Titled - Animals As Leaders

This is personally my favorite instrumental album and it led me to finding Tosin Abasi who I believe might be the best guitarist in the world right now.  I don't even understand how someone could write music like this, much less be able to play it live perfectly night after night.  I don't think that anyone would be able to listen to this album and not be amazed by how impressive every instrument involved is.  I've never had the opportunity to see these guys live but every video I've seen online is perfect and makes them look ridiculously tight.  They have a new album coming out soon so before you listen to that check this out and see where they came from.

Stay Focused - Focused Minds

This is one of my favorite EPs of all time.  I've listened to this thing countless times and every time I play it it pumps me up just as much as it did the first time I heard it.  Focused Minds has gone on to release more great music but this EP I think will always be my favorite.  It probably just left me with good memories, but it is still an amazing release no matter how you look at it.  If you're a fan of hardcore or being straight edge you need to give this a listen.

This album is ridiculously good. I loved every second of it and definitely think that this is the best work he's put out.  Even if you think all pop music sucks and is a waste of time, you will agree that this album is great.  Pharrell is a genius and he just continues to prove it with every album he comes out with.

Born Into Debt, We All Owe A Death - Cruel Hand

Cruel Hand is awesome and this EP is awesome.  I hate that it always feels like it takes Cruel Hand forever to release new music but when they release stuff like this it really makes it worth the wait.  Although this EP is only three songs, it is fantastic and everyone needs to get on board with it.  Hopefully the good response that Cruel Hand got back from this EP will be enough to get them to finally release a new full length.

Love Is Love // Return To Dust - Code Orange Kids

Code Orange Kids really made a name for themselves last year even landing themselves a spot on the AP Magazine list of bands you need to know.  They're really making a name for Pittsburgh hardcore right now too which I know everyone back in Pennsylvania really appreciates.  I personally really liked this album and I feel like when you listen to it from beginning to end that you really get lost in it and forget exactly what is going on.  I love that one second in the album you can be listening to fast almost power violence feel beats and then two seconds later it can be a completely ambient vibe that leaves me feeling relaxed.  For that reason exactly it can seem a bit confusing at times, but I really do think it's a pretty sweet album.

Street Prowl - Rotting Out

Street Prowl is one of the best hardcore albums of all time and if you disagree then you need to go fuck yourself.  Rotting Out is absolutely killing it these days and this album in my mind is what defined them as one of the best bands in hardcore.  If you know this album then I'm sure you've listened to it hundreds of times because it is just that good.  Every time I've seen Rotting Out live it's an absolute insane burst of energy for the entire set and they are always so solid.  No description is even necessary for this album, you just need to have it.

Say Anything Discography

I know I've said before that I love Say Anything, but I haven't really gone into it.  I honestly believe that Max Bemis of Say Anything is one of the greatest songwriters of all time and I don't think that he gets even half of the recognition that he deserves.  With that being said I'm going to post pretty much every song that Say Anything has ever released which is an absolute shit ton.  I may miss some and if I catch myself I'll go back and fix it but enjoy this.  Every single song is worth listening to.

No Rest, No Peace - Alpha & Omega

Before this album I had heard of Alpha & Omega but I wasn't completely sold on them.  I'm not sure what it was, but for some reason I just couldn't get into them like everyone else around me.  Because of that when this album came out I wasn't really overly excited and didn't even bother downloading it until probably a month after it came out.  Literally after the first song ended I realized how bad ass of a band these guys are and how I had obviously misjudged everything that I had thought about them before.  This album fucking rips.  You can literally headbang your way through this entire album and you will love every second of it.  There are so many little things that I love about this album that I can't even begin to explain it because if I did I'd end up spending the next hour and a half writing about little things that no one else would ever care about.  Just listen to this album.

Clarities, Epiphanies, and Leftovers - Along Came Paully

Clarities, Epiphanies, and Leftovers cover art

Along Came Paully is an independent folk artist out of Tulsa, Oklahoma that I was fortunate enough to stumble across about a month ago.  With a music scene of mainly hardcore and pop punk bands throughout the state of Oklahoma, Along Came Paully is a huge breath of fresh air.  With an extremely clever writing style and a huge display of musicianship shown across every song this is a ridiculously impressive album.  Every song I feel like shows off a new instrument or song structure that I would never expect to hear on a self produced album.  Listening to this album the first time through I really felt like I was just watching a clinic on how to write songs in a completely unique way and I loved every second of it.  The best comparison that I can even come up with to this album is a very early Max Bemis feel but with a lot more of a folk influence.  If you take Dormroom Demos by Say Anything but instead of the punk rock influence add a folk influence I really feel like it would come out as something like this.  Check out this album and help this great artist get off the ground.

Cult - Bayside

This is the newest release from Bayside and I'm sure that I don't really need to give them an introduction.  They've been around forever and they continue to put out solid album after album.  With that being said, this album isn't one of my favorites.  A lot of people say that listening to this album makes them feel like they're listening to one of the first Bayside albums and that that's all that they could ask for but for me anyway I still would prefer something new to grab my attention a little more.  If you're a fan of Bayside then you will still really enjoy this album, but if you're a new fan of them or haven't heard them yet I would recommend to start off with one of their earlier albums before you go to this one.

Life On The James - Down To Nothing

Down To Nothing has been around for awhile now and they really stepped up their game with this album.  I'm not usually a fan of  more "upbeat" hardcore, but I really did like this album.  I don't know what it was but for some reason these songs were constantly being stuck in my head.  There's something to be said about a band that can write basically an entire album about hanging out with their friends on the river and still keep it exciting.  This album was full of great riffs and lyrics that will put a smile on your face instead of piss you off.  But sometimes that's good to listen to.  This is definitely a summer album so maybe if you give it a listen now then it'll finally make it feel like things are warming up.

Abandon All Life - Nails

If you've heard of Nails you know if you like them or not and even if you don't like them you appreciate them for the insane motherfuckers they are.  Nails is straight power-violence/grind whatever you want to call it.  To people who don't know what that is just imagine really fast music where there is usually more snare than symbol with lyrics that are being said so quickly it'll take you ten listens to actually get a grip on what the songs are about.  But with all that being said, this album is awesome.  Anytime I feel like I want to completely lose my mind and have to seriously question whether I'm on Earth or suddenly in the deepest region of hell I put on Nails.  I had the pleasure of seeing them last summer at TIHC and the second they took the stage there was just an eerie vibe among the entire crowd and an absolute silence.  The second they played their first chord the entire crowd immediately turned into what felt like a prison riot.  I love Nails and I love this album.  Listen to it.

Love The Future - Chester French

Chester French never really took off quite like I expected when I first heard them years ago.  They've done things like tour with Lady Gaga and release songs with Travis Barker and Pharrell but they've never really been noticed for the amazing songwriters that they are.  I've always loved this band and this album always brings me back to the exact moment that I was when I first heard it.  If you're a fan of indie-ish/pop/alternative music listen to this album and I promise you will not be disappointed.  I have a feeling that there's still a chance they'll have a huge breakthrough within the next year or so because DA their singer recently had a song released by Tyler, The Creator for some reason.  So I have no idea what will actually happen with this band, but this album will always be good enough for me to go back and listen to.

Misadventures - Such Gold

Such Gold along with The Story So Far are the only two pop punk bands that I've been able to consistently listen to ever since I originally heard of them.  They just never really get old.  Such Gold in my opinion is a step above The Story So Far though because of their great guitar work.  These guys consistently kill it by bridging the gap between hardcore/pop punk/melodic shit by coming up with some of the best guitar riffs around.  What's even more amazing to me is right now they're touring as a 4 piece with their singer playing lead as well as about 90% of the vocals ever since their guitarist/backup singer quit.  They're still seamless live and this album really separated their early work from their current direction.  This is definitely one of my favorite pop punk releases of all time and if you decided to sleep on it for some reason you definitely messed up.  They should be coming out with a new album along with a split this year so if you get into this keep an eye out for more good music coming from these guys.

Population Control - No Zodiac

This album came out awhile ago but I thought it deserved to be posted because I still give it a listen every once in awhile.  It's a pretty solid album for heavy hardcore/beatdown and I've enjoyed it pretty much since it first came out back in 2012.  What made me decide to post it though was the fact that No Zodiac recently announced that they split ways with their vocalist and that got me excited because even though I really enjoyed this album and what it brought to the table, the vocals really got boring for me over time.  I'm hoping that when they release new music later this year with the new vocalist that they're going to be back and better than ever.  Obviously I don't know if that is what is going to happen but a guy can hope.  Anyway, if you like beatdown and you never checked these guys out it's worth a listen.

I'm posting this because Kurt Cobain's birthday just passed last week and there are way too many people nowadays that don't actually know Nirvana as more than just a name.  I don't care who you are, if you don't like Nirvana and this album then you are a fucking liar.  This will always be one of the best albums of all time and I really don't think that should even be up for debate.  I still to this day think grunge is one of the coolest trends and I wish that it never died.  If you've never listened to this album then stop reading this and listen to it right now.

Clear Minded Fury - Minority Unit

Unfortunately, Minority Unit is no longer (RIP.)  But they did leave us with two EPs and a huge legacy.  For those of you who didn't already know, Minority Unit was California's own supergroup of straight edge dudes that created something massive in a little over a year of being a band.  After only releasing 2 EPs that probably play a total of 15 minutes in length, they were being asked to play some of the biggest fests in the world.  After just one play through of this EP you will be able to tell why because it is some of the most fun hardcore out there whether you're straight edge or not.  No one can say no to the clear minded fury that they were putting out and it's always fun to go back and watch videos of their shows because from what it looks like, there is just nothing like it.  Experience The Straight Edge and give this a spin.

Divine Injustice - God's Hate

Divine Injustice cover art

I don't know too much about this band so far because they are pretty much brand new.  What I do know is, they are from Los Angeles, they're backed by TUI, they have the guitarist from Twitching Tongues, and they are hard as all fuck.  I saw a bunch of bands tweeting about this EP last week and decided to give it a quick look and I've been jamming it ever since.  Like I said, they're so new that I don't know enough about them to say exactly what they're like or even know if they're planning on touring anytime soon.  But I do know that this EP rips and I really hope that I get the chance to see them if they ever get out on tour.  God's Hate reminds me of No Zodiac kind of, but with more exciting guitar parts and not such a constant monotone voice.  Definitely give these guys a look so you can know them before all of your friends.

Secrets Of The World - Trapped Under Ice

I'll say outright that Trapped Under Ice is my favorite band in hardcore so it is very easy for me to be opinionated anytime that I'm talking about them.  Trapped Under Ice almost single-handedly made Baltimore one of the biggest cities in America for hardcore, and a lot of that is due to the success of this album.  The demos that TUI put out were great and made them a recognizable name across the country, but the release of this album is what made them titans in modern hardcore.  This is one of the best albums in modern hardcore and there isn't a single song on the album that doesn't make you want to lose your mind.  Anyone that has ever seen them knows just how huge their shows are and understands what makes them as big as they are today.  Unfortunately, they're in the middle of a two year hiatus that is expected to end summer of 2015ish.  I know that I'll miss every second that they're not out on the road touring or in the studio writing music, but I guarantee that it'll be worth it when they come back with a new record that I'm sure will inspire some ass beatings.  Until they're back though, their members are all working in Turnstile, Down To Nothing, The Diamond Youth, and Angel Du$t so be sure to check them out if you're a fan.  I'll post the link to their last show before their hiatus as well as the download to this album so that you can check their live shows out if you haven't already.  I was lucky enough to be at their last show and I can promise you that it was the most insane thing I've ever seen.

What You Don't See - The Story So Far

The Story So Far is probably the biggest band in pop punk right now so if you haven't heard of them you're probably living under a rock.  I personally believe that they deserve all of the hype and all of the praise that is constantly given to them.  I've seen them live 6 different times all over the country and everywhere I've seen them they get just about the same response from the crowd which is one of the most energetic and fun crowds I've ever seen.  Any band that can get such a consistent crowd and always deliver a good show deserves all of the credit in the world.  They are also one of the very few pop punk bands that I constantly enjoy.  You're never going to get the feeling that you're listening to some guy bitch about his girlfriend and talk about eating pizza from listening to a TSSF album and that's perfect in my mind.  I'm sure you've already listened to this album, but if you haven't that needs to change real quick.

Pendulum Swings - Expire

Expire really set themselves apart from other hardcore bands with their last release Pendulum Swings.  It's hard to find a band that can mix such catchy riffs with vocal flows that fit every single riff perfectly.  I still remember the first time that I listened to this album I was having a hard time not bobbing my head along with it.  Expire is set to release another album later this year with the same producer they had for Pendulum Swings so I can only imagine that it will be another huge album for these guys.  If you're a fan of hardcore and you're not already jamming this album it's time to quit sleeping and get on it.

The Difference Between Hell And Home - Counterparts

Counterparts quickly rose to the top of melodic hardcore years ago but their last album The Difference Between Hell And Home really confirmed that they are the best in the genre.  There is nothing not to like about this album for any fan of the genre or anyone who genuinely likes impressive musicians.  Counterparts has been through a string of different drummers but all of them have remained impressive and solid and that is no exception with their new drummer.  Counterparts has also always really impressed me with their guitar work.  All melodic hardcore bands find cool little riffs to make their music sound "pretty" but with every new Counterparts album I find myself sitting next to my speakers listening and thinking "how the fuck are they playing that."  This is by far their best album in my opinion and I believe that it will be remembered as one of the pinnacles of melodic hardcore.

The Greatest Generation - The Wonder Years

2013 was a great year for music and I firmly believe that this was one of the best albums of the year.  A lot of people like to pretend like they don't like The Wonder Years just because of their fan base or how quickly they got popular.  Even if you actually don't like their first few albums which is extremely possible because of how generic pop punk most of the songs were you still need to listen to this album.  They really upped their game with this album and created something special.  The Wonder Years showed a lot of maturity and a lot of growth with their song writing on this album and from what I can tell I think that will only continue to get better.  Give The Wonder Years another chance if you haven't and appreciate these songs for what they are and remember that they're not just the "I'm not sad anymore" kids on tumblr.

Internal War - Suburban Scum

Internal War was the first release from Suburban Scum and it is still my personal favorite release from them.  Suburban Scum quickly became one of the most prominent bands in modern hardcore and I can only see them going up from here.  Last summer at TIHC they announced that they'll be releasing a split with Xibalba as well as a full length this year and to me at least, those are two of my most anticipated releases of the year.  This EP is filled with big guitar riffs, mean ass beatdowns, and was the perfect way to expose the world to their music.  To anyone who has seen/heard of them now and hasn't given this EP a listen you're really missing out.

Blinded is Harm's Way's newest release and anyone who already knows Harm's Way knows just how good this is.  I fell in love with Harm's Way because of their dark, ominous sound and their heavier than hell beatdowns.  There are very few things not to like about Harm's Way for any fan of hardcore because they hit pretty much everything that you could want in a song and usually do it better than most everyone else.  If you're looking for a new album to listen to at an ignorantly loud volume, or you're feeling like punching a hole in your wall download this immediately and you'll never look back.

Xtra Raw - Angel Du$t

Xtra Raw is the first release from Angel Du$t which features members from some of Baltimore's heavy hitters such as Trapped Under Ice and Mindset.  What's different about Angel Du$t is instead of being just another hardcore band out of Baltimore, they decided to bring back punk rock and stick out from every other band around.  This entire album is filled with fun songs that have a ridiculously high relistening value.  I've listened to this 100 times since I first got it last year I swear to god.  Originally I didn't know how well they would be received by the public just because they are doing something so different from what everyone else is right now, but after seeing them last December with Turnstile at a hometown show it's easy to tell that they'll be sticking around for awhile.  As soon as the first chord was played the entire crowd was immediately in a push pit and singing along just like what I imagine every punk show from the 80s to be like.  I expect these guys to do big things during Trapped Under Ice's hiatus so they're definitely worth a look if you haven't given them one yet.  Who knows, you just might end up being a Du$t Head.

Enter Vice Lords - Agitator

This is one of my favorite hardcore albums.  Agitator is a straight edge band out of Philadelphia so that immediately got my attention since I'm from right by there.  Then after listening to the first song on this album they had my full attention and I could already tell that I would fall in love.  These guys are pissed off and they make sure that everyone knows it in every song they put out.  This album samples from being pissed off about everything you can imagine.  My personal favorites are Embrace Hate and Diseased.  Definitely give them a listen if you haven't.

Tooth And Claw (Single) - Animals As Leaders

This is just the newest single off of Animals As Leaders next album The Joy Of Motion.  I'm really anticipating this next album to be great.  Since their self titled release back in 2009 they have really made quite a name for themselves internationally.  The self titled album is one of my favorite albums to this day while their Sophomore album Weightless disappointed me.  This first single reminds me a lot more of the self titled album so I'm hoping to hear more great music from these guys.  Definitely something to keep an eye out for.

Pressure To Succeed - Turnstile

Turnstile in my opinion will be the biggest band in hardcore within the next year.  Featuring members of Trapped Under Ice they immediately were signed to Reaper and released this EP.  Everyone who has listened to Turnstile knows exactly what they're bringing to the table.  Turnstile is a revival of hardcore with new twists to keep things more exciting than ever.  During last summer's TIHC I did not miss a band the entire four days and I don't think anyone in the crowd would argue that Turnstile's set wasn't the best of the entire festival.  After they release their long awaited first LP later this year (hopefully) they're going to make one of the biggest splashes in hardcore in years.

Because The Internet - Childish Gambino

This is my favorite recent rap album and it's Childish Gambino's newest release.  In my opinion it is way better than his last LP Camp.  This album is full of catchy hooks, good beats, and some of the most intelligent lyrics that you'll ever hear on an album.  Gambino is definitely getting in his zone with this new material and it's rumored that this won't be the end of the album.  Hopefully he'll be releasing more music soon and hopefully he'll keep up the good work.

Ready To Die - Notorious B.I.G.

I figured it was time to post a bit of rap so why not start it out with my favorite rap album of all time.  What I love about BIG is that all of his music is hard, and all of it is real.  Unlike just about every rap artist out currently, BIG wrote real music and wrote about what he actually lived.  If you're a fan of rap and haven't listened to this album you need to get on it now.
